Forget skateparks could this be the way of the future for suburban areas concrete Ping Pong tables. Only in the ever stylish Melbourne could you get away with these Monoliths (wiki: a large single upright block of stone, especially one shaped into or serving as a pillar or monument). A collaboration between Artist Laith McGregor and Architect Murray Barker they are made from stone aggregate, copper-inlay, bead-blasted stainless steel are a set of 3, and are grouped together to create interactive gathering hubs in outdoor social spaces.

“…The works are perceived as enigmatic sculptural forms, built to elucidate the weight of the object in relation to the surrounding urban landscape, and conforming to standard dimensions for recreational playability…”

Everything old is new again! How true that is especially with this restored 1969 Holden Hurricane, Melbourne. Painstakingly restored by factory workers (who volunteered) this was originally a concept car. But it’s amazing how many of its features were ahead of its time that we take as normal for today. It had automatic air-conditioning, a rear camera that can be viewed in the drivers seat, guidance system providing directions from detecting magnets in the road and modern Corvette styling. With it being just over 100cm high it packs a punch with a 253-cubic-inch Holden V-8.

“…For that time, the engine’s output was considerable, and a four-barrel carburetor had never appeared on a Holden until that point…”
